Types of Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are a convenient and fashionable choice for your hair. They are installed by professional stylists for the best results. There are different techniques for hair extension application. These techniques are guided by the type of extension that you want to use. The various types of hair extensions are:

Weave Extensions

Weave extensions are best for ladies with thick hair. It is often difficult to disguise thick hair through bonding or any other type of hair extension. Weaving works best. First the hair has to be braided into cornrows. Next, the weave extension has to be sewn into the cornrows. The other option is to use a lace weave extension. This is applied as a cap on top of the braided hair then sewn in as well. The second is much better as there is no chance of the cornrow lines being spotted.

Pre-bonded Extensions

These are applied using keratin or glue. They are the best as they produce the most realistic results. However, they are also the most dangerous to apply on your hair as they are more risky. The glue or any other adhesive can damage the hair and so can the heat used in the process.

Tape in Hair Extensions

Tape extensions also use adhesive to stick onto the hair. The tape is heated and then applied a few centimeters off your scalp. They last about four months and need to be tightened up every few weeks. They are most commonly used if you would like to make your hair appear more voluminous.

Micro Bead Extensions

Micro bead extensions can slide up or down the hair strand. This is advantageous for those who don’t mind moving them up. However, they are a nuisance to those who would like them to stay in one place. These extensions are safe as they don’t require the use of heat or adhesive. To apply them, the hair is applied close to the root and clamped down with hair pliers then fastened using the silicon bead that comes with the extensions. They can be applied all over the head or in your problematic areas to achieve the look you desire.

There are a number of factors that influence which type of hair extension you choose. The budget is most important. If you have a little fortune to spend on your hair then you will be able to buy the best extensions in the market. You will also be able to go to a professional hairstylist regardless of how much they charge for application. However, if you do not have a lot of money to spend then you could end up opting for a cheaper hair extension and installation that is simple so as to save on some money.

You also need to consider the safety of your hair. If you are afraid of damage from bonding, even though you have the money, it is advisable to go for micro bead extensions as they still look good but don’t carry such risks. However, if you are still adamant on getting them, it is best to go to a seasoned and experienced hairstylists for application.
